I’m so disappointed with the statement by the American #Jewish Committee on the regime’s reign of terror in #Minnesota. It expresses moral equivocation on the horrifying immigration policies of this govt, and moral equivalence between masked perpetrators and peaceful protestors.

I remember when the #AJC spoke with clarity and passion in defense of civil liberties. I hope this respected and important organization can find its footing again—soon.

CBP Überfuhrer Bovino (whose name is Italian for "animal that produces prodigious quantities of bullshit"—seriously, look it up) produced the following feculent effluent at a press conference earlier today:

"[. . .] when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement, calling law enforcement names like 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping', that is a choice that is made. There are actions and consequences that come from those choices."

To which I respond:

  • You can't "vilify' actual #villains.
  • #Gestapo is the kindest analogy one can imagine for your organization of #fascist #terrorists by any reasonable analysis of its actions
  • #Kidnapping buries the lede: the bigger story is the #incarceration, #abuse, #torture, and extra-judicial expulsion that follows. the kidnapping.

    Well yeah. The agency could argue the policy is not "arbitrary or capricious" due to the "need" (and I use the word loosely here) for enforcement of #immigration laws (although as the change in these policies was never subject to public review, as required (AFAIK) by the APA, they shouldn't be in effect in the first place).

    But under no circumstances can they avoid constitutionally required due process, warranted search, right of assembly, right of free speech, and equal protection constraints on their behavior. It's just a non-starter.

    If hundreds of these guys don't go to jail when this regime is finally ousted, that will be a damned shame and a signal to the next tinpot dictator that they can get away with anything.
