Youtube still helps copyright abusers massively.

No, not the ones who upload like 5s song fragments or even NO SONG AT ALL, but those who claim "DMCA TAKEDOWN!" for certain songs even if there is no music AT ALL in that video.
Yes, no music at all. Let that sink in.

As a video uploader you have no chance to counter the claim but as claiming party, you do not have to prove anything! Just say "copyright infringement" and boom - all the money that was made with that poor uploader's video goes to you instead.

It is a scandal, seriously. And this bXllshXt is known for AGES. And no one cares. One more reason to go away from YT - but easier said then done, if you wanna make a living from your videos. Like Music Mongoose, an ex BBC music journalist, an excellent one btw.

He explains it in detail:

The owner of OnlyFans, Fenix International Limited sent a DCMA takedown notice to GitHub, insisting they remove several projects that aimed to reverse engineer the popular Widevine DRM that is used in many media platforms.

There are a couple curiosities in this case though, such as Fenix providing specific personal details of contributors, and some over-reaching responses when GitHub reached out to them for clarification on what aspects were infringing.

DRM-Free OnlyFans Downloads See Widevine Project Nuked From GitHub * TorrentFreak

A project has been ejected from GitHub after OnlyFans alleged that its Widevine decryption toolkit made videos downloadable, DRM-free.

Another day, another fraudulent DCMA pre-compliance copyright strike against one of my youtube videos using public domain music.

Sigh.

How an “absolutist position” seeks to block even minor copyright exemptions, and usually succeeds

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was passed in the US in 1998, at an early stage of the shift to a digital world, with little concern for the serious harm it would cause as everything became suffused with software. The problem is that the DMCA prevents circumvention of copyright protection measures (generally known as …

If #Apple is going to be a totally shitty company among others, I can choose a cheaper shitty company from now on.

Apple Intelligence features probably won’t launch in the EU in 2024

Apple says the Digital Markets Act’s interoperability requirements could delay EU rollouts of features like iPhone mirroring and Apple Intelligence AI.

Recall does not record DRMed material because it is encrypted.
Recall does record Signal and Threema even though it is encrypted.

I wonder if @signalapp and @threemaapp can sue #MicroSoft for breach of #DCMA or other applicable laws?

New Japan Pro wrestling uploaded the video of a full match with Mercedes Mone to its own YouTube channel ,then 4 months latter, sent a DCMA to itself, about its own channel for its own match.

The video is now restored, and the original tweet regarding the situation has been deleted. However, it did give me a chuckle
