#DATACENTER #SMUGGLING || This report of 3 guys at #SuperMicro smuggling $2.5B of #NVIDIA B200 chips to China only tells half the story.

So I asked #CoPilot to derive how many chips and how much compute that might yield. Answer: "a 50–80 MW datacenter class for a production deployment of a 40k‑B200 cluster" which is "enough capacity to train and serve multiple frontier‑class LLMs concurrently, or run a single massive multi‑tenant AI platform".

Feds announce huge natural gas plant, data center project in southern Ohio to "power AI" in a "unique public-private partnership with SoftBank and AEP Ohio to redevelop DOE land, modernize energy infrastructure, and develop advanced computing in Southern Ohio."

Two federal government agencies say a $33.3 billion natural gas plant in southern Ohio will power a major data center project.

The facilities, including the behemoth 10 gigawatt data center, will be constructed on U.S. Department of Energy-owned land in Piketon, according to a Friday news release from the agency. Construction to start later this year.

SB Energy, under SoftBank Group, will build the natural gas plant. SB Energy will also invest $4.2 billion in new transmission lines across southern Ohio, constructed by American Electric Power, or AEP #Ohio.

Here's one more take on the #MicroSlop land acquisition for a new #Microsoft #AI #DataCenter . Keep in mind that this is from our local #FauxNews outlet, who wants to spin this out as if it's only a formality, and the deal is practically done. Total BS, of course.

and this is not just nvidia. every corporation sitting on idle compute should be paying attention. there are thousands of GPUs in data centers right now doing nothing between workloads. one idle A100 to an independent researcher produces more open source value in a week than it

DC site selection matrix for Southeast Asia:

Latency-sensitive front-end: Singapore (5/5)
AI training / batch: Batam (5/5)
Enterprise compliance: Singapore (5/5)
Cost-sensitive compute: Batam (5/5)
Multi-site resilience: Both

26+ submarine cables vs 60% cheaper electricity. The right answer depends on the workload.

Singapore vs Batam Data Centers: Why Cost Alone Doesn't Win

20 km apart, 2-3x cost difference. Objective analysis of when to choose Singapore, Batam, or both for your data center workloads.

The Singapore-Batam Digital Corridor is already being built.

Front-end in Singapore (peering, low-latency apps). Back-end in Batam (AI training, storage, DR). A dedicated 24-fiber-pair submarine cable connects them at under 2ms latency.

This is what happens when one location runs out of space and the other has cost advantages too large to ignore.

Singapore and Batam are 20 km apart. Batam electricity costs 60% less. Land costs 40-100x less. Labor is 4-5x cheaper.

Yet most hosting companies still pick Singapore. Why?

I wrote an objective analysis with a decision matrix for six workload types. The answer depends entirely on what you are running.
