I took 2 SSD drives, put them into a #DAS in RAID1, and made it a data storage for #Garage object storage.

So my Garage now is a single-node cluster with its downsides.

And I just realised that I could use those two drives on two different machines to build a two-node #Garage cluster with redundancy, data repairs, and load balancing! That would be cooooooool!

Good to realize this now, before I migrated my #Mastodon instance media storage there.

I have my own S3-compatible object storage with #Garage now.

Connected it to my #Kanbn instance, and it just works.

I'll be migrating #GlitchySocial #Mastodon instance to it in a week, because service-workers, browser caches... It's complicated.

Garage is in an #LXC. Its storage is on a hardware RAID on #DAS. This way, I can migrate an LXC, reconnect the DAS, and have it running on another #Proxmox node in minutes.

I try not to be too critical of "how to geek" stories because these guys are basically paid to crank out something a bit technical and a bit clickbaity.

This one isn't too bad. But it's kind of buried in the story that it's speaking to a specific kind of user, one with 4TB of data out on the cloud.

Local solutions can work, especially #DAS in place of #NAS, and for requirements closer to 1TB

Restoring 12GB LXC from remote storage on #hetzner is taking forever. 2 hours already and still running. It's a #VPS with a Storage Box attached.

I started to think about local #ProxmoxBackupServer with weekly sync to remote. And for this, I'm planning to buy a #DAS and the cheapest #miniPC with USB Type-C possible.
