🇪🇺🚲 The #European Commission has published the #Cycling Counts study on World Bicycle Day, providing the first EU-wide baseline of cycling infrastructure and data. The report identified more than 900,000km of cycling paths and lanes across the #EU, creating a benchmark for future monitoring.
The study assessed cycling across four areas: cycle networks, #cycle use, #cyclist safety and cycling-related services, including bike sharing, cycle parking and cycle logistics. It found that nearly 24% of EU residents cycle at least once a week, although participation levels vary widely between countries. In almost 300 EU cities with populations above 150,000, bike-sharing schemes are available in most locations, with around 300,000 bicycles in operation.
The report also highlights gaps in data on cycle logistics and cycle parking, and sets out recommendations to improve data collection and support future cycling policy and investment across the EU.
