Continuing the gravel ride on the Mass Central Rail Trail near Rutland, along the section that parallels Route 68. Granite mile markers from the old railroad still line the path silent reminders of the line’s long reach across the state. The late-afternoon light caught them beautifully, connecting the modern trail to the railway that once ran here.

From start to finish, the atmosphere was electric. Fans lined every turn, waving flags, cheering with every pedal stroke, urging the riders on through the climbs, the cobbles, the heat. The energy was contagious — I felt like I was part of the race. To witness history unfolding on African soil for the first time… truly humbling.
And what a race it was! The final podium looked like this:
🥇 Gold — Magdeleine Vallieres (Canada)
🥈 Silver — Niamh Fisher-Black (New Zealand)
🥉 Bronze — Mavi García (Spain)

Vallieres launched a gutsy move on the final climb of the Côte de Kimihurara, breaking away from her breakaway companions, and held on for an unforgettable win. 
Being behind the lens in those final moments — the strain, the determination, the crowd holding their breaths — was magic. I’m so honored to have been there to capture this historic championship in a setting so rich with spirit and passion.
