Custom cursors: I don’t think I’ve ever seen an implementation done well—they _always_ seem to make it harder to navigate.

What makes people so sure custom cursors are improving the user experience?

To be sure, cursors _really_ need usability tests—so if it cannot be tested whether a custom cursor works, it seems better not to use one.
