I mean, just on the face of it, having your palace servants slow poison your Empress and expecting it to be kept a secret and have no reprocussions seems REALLY deluded.

Like, WTH was the Emperor's personal history that would lead him to think this was a good idea?

(I'm rewatching this cuz I was distracted during the 1st pass)

The movie overwhelms the viewer with spectacle and intrigue, but at its core you kinda have to wonder: What the hell did the Emperor expect to happen? He was not exactly winning over anyone's loyalty. 😖
