MacLeod is a researcher and investigative journalist for MintPress News, and author of ‘Bad News from Venezuela: 20 Years of Fake News and Misreporting’, based on his PhD thesis.

Through interviewing the western journalists posted in Caracas, MacLeod’s research showed that they acted as ‘ideological foot soldiers’ for #US imperialism, deliberately manufacturing consent for #RegimeChange. MacLeod tells us how one journalist, who he names in the podcast, admitted to planting fake news about Venezuela, describing himself as ‘mercenary for hire’.

Thousands of Cubans rose early this morning to honor the 32 compatriots killed by #US troops during the violent abduction of Venezuelan President #NicolásMaduro on January 3, 2026. Their remains were flown into #Havana, and honoured with a ceremony there before being carried along Boyeros Avenue—lined with mourners—to the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. People waited for hours to pay tribute to the fallen Cubans, despite the heavy rain which swept in, filing past the coffins in silence and sorrow.

Cuba Analysis co-host #HelenYaffe was there as the procession passed and spoke with attendees about why they had participated and what this moment means for them and for #Cuba.
