I had decided to change the gender of a minor character and a misplaced pronoun made it all the way past me and my editor into the final printing.
I didn’t notice until I was recording the audiobook.
Minor issue at the end of the day, but oh my goodness do I feel silly about it. 😅
Took a break to write a draft for a blog post today. Just a brief discussion of gender and sexual dimorphism in Crown of Horns and how this compares/contrasts with the feminist artworks of Audra Balion.
I think there’s some neat discussion here. It also lays some groundwork for explorations in my next book that I could talk about in a future post. Having a hard time figuring out the level of depth I want to get into, though.
It’ll get there.

Ever deal with trolls?
I’ve shared this story before, but someone once AI review bombed me. Built out a profile and “wrote” over thirty reviews for different books in a day to seem more legit then left a 10-paragraph one-star for me. Followed up with samey ones, hit my Good Reads and Indigo listings.
Clearly had read nothing outside the back matter. Was very frustrating.
If anyone ever wants to leave a real review of #CrownOfHorns to balance the slop, that’s cool. 😅
Two thirds of the way through my editing pass! Should be good to get out to beta readers by the end of the month!

It’s possible that my book is in an odd place when the artist asks about a character’s pants and I can’t even tell her if there ARE pants.

The edits for these last few chapters have gone a whole lot smoother for me. Prose is generally less clunky here, or maybe I’m just in a better headspace to wrestle it if I need to.
Managed to get through three chapters this evening, all while hanging out with my partner at her studio.
Yay!
#WritersCoffeeClub 15 March: Talk about an experience you had sharing your writing with a group.
When I launched my book last year, I was working with a group called Artists Helping Artists. We met each week to help each other with a creative project and then presented a snippet of those works at an event. I read a collection of passages from my book to get people interested.
When I was done, the emcee said I had just successfully edged the entire audience. 😆

I read out the new epilogue to my partner last night to get her opinion.
1. I got the reaction I was looking for. Hit the right beat. Huzzah!
2. My wording was, rightfully so, clunky and awkward. Maybe I should clean up the last third of the book I rewrote before subjecting beta readers to it. 😆
