*not actually the worst thing by a very long way, but it’s annoying and sometimes you have to joke about things. And then add a disclaimer because there’s always someone who won’t get it.

I was up late and decided to go to bed when I couldn't log into my bank. As soon as I was drifting off, the dreaded alert pager sounded off.

The #CrowdStrikeCrisis brought down not only the VMs, but the hosting environment, and the authentication behind the VPN. Hundreds of systems need 'hands-on' intervention and validation, I think dozens might need recovery from backup.

It was a totally novel kind of outage that we don't have a playbook for. The process to get back to normal is somewhere between a ransomware recovery and a recovery from a bad hard power outage.

Wikipedia already ready with an article, with a supposed fix by Crowdstrike as well! Manual intervention seems unavoidable!

UPDATE:
"CrowdStrike reverted the content update at 05:27 (UTC).[citation needed] Devices booted after the update was reverted are expected to not be affected. As of 09:45 (UTC), the CEO confirmed the fix was deployed."
