A common gray pigeon that is easily identified by the long pointed crest on the top of its head. Mostly pale gray with bright iridescence on wings. Feeds only on the ground. Takes flight with noisy wing-claps, and in flight has a wing-whistle which makes it sound like a wind-up toy. Common in open habitats and is often present in suburban areas.

An interaction between two Crested Pigeons:

1) Look at my big tail feathers and my teeny tiny pupils!
2) You're not looking!
3) ...Oh...
4) Hmmm...Happy noises...

They both then went back to scouring the grass for tasty morsels.

In the sun, their wing feathers flash these beautiful metallic purple and green colours

I went out to our Gatton Campus today for a job, and while I charged the car, I took in some of the local bird life.

The Noisy Miners were busy harassing everyone, the Magpie followed me from tree to tree talking to me, the Crested Pigeon was not interested in being within 20m of me, so took refuge in a Jacaranda tree, and there were several Little Friarbirds flitting about.

Most of the beautiful sunflowers that have bloomed throughout Spring and Summer, many with double or triple flower heads, have now succumbed to flooding rains, high winds and intermittent heat waves.

As we carried the remaining blooms inside to place in vases, lovely native birds, grazing in pairs or nearby groups, watched on, as if to help us honour that moment when we first broadcast those sunflower seeds in the dead of winter.

A journey to stylize a crested pigeon pin. I like how I start off basically realistic and work my way from there.

Really happy with how the pin design turned out. Now I just need to investigate how to manufacture pins. :'D
