The 'Creative Quarter' Art Trail is back!

After the success of our first open evening back in September, my creative neighbours and I are excited to be holding our next installment at the end of this month. It's a great way to find out more about our work, have a chat and maybe discover something new.

Whether you're a regular visitor, someone who passes by but is nervous about coming into one of our studios or galleries, or someone who is discovering our lovely little street for the first time, we'd love for you to join us. It's free, no need to book, just turn up anytime between 5 and 8pm, grab a drink and have a wander around our little trail. See you there?

About last night…

I think it's fair to say our first Creative Quarter open evening was a great success. We really didn't know what to expect or whether people would even turn up, but boy you did! I had a wonderful evening catching up with familiar faces, and especially enjoyed meeting new visitors and introducing them to what we have on offer in our lovely little corner of Hexham.

Launching in the Hexham shop today, ready for our Creative Quarter open evening, and heading online next week. I've loved working on this collection and I'm really chuffed to see it all come together. I've definitely got a couple of favourites (is it wrong to make something then hope no-one buys it?!). Hope you love it too! 🤞🍂🍂

A little peek ahead at what's coming next week as part of my new Autumn Collection. Think falling leaves in copper and silver, accented by a small selection of stone set pieces in autumnal shades. Launching on Friday as part of our 'Creative Quarter' open evening, and heading online soon after.

Artists unveil vision for new museum and creative quarter in Llanelli town centre

The proposal, led by the John Street Project, aims to breathe new life into the town centre by acquiring and converting the old Post Office building into a museum and multi‑use arts space.

The group is seeking a £150,000 National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to fund the project, which would include a flexible exhibition area, artist studios, a small café, and a decorative archway to showcase local talent.

Tara Fisher, Project Secretary, said:

“We want artists to know that the museum will be a home for local people of talent. This is vital. If everything goes smoothly, and we get extra funding, we would like to run the museum ourselves.”

The museum would be housed in the former Post Office, which includes a Grade II listed section. The group hopes to create a space that can host courses, events and exhibitions, with movable walls to allow for flexible layouts.

Plans also include a gift shop, tourist office, and a bookable studio space for artists across the constituency.

Environmental features and community involvement

The project also includes a strong environmental focus, with proposals for planters filled with bee‑friendly flowers, donated by residents. Each planter would carry the name of its donor, recognising their contribution to the town’s regeneration.

A standout feature would be a £25,000 French wind turbine tree, similar to one installed at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Tara Fisher added:

“What an exciting prospect to have these trees, one on the Place de la Concorde in Paris and one in John Street, Llanelli.”

The group is also exploring crowdfunding options and hopes to employ a full‑time supervisor and two part‑time staff to run the museum.

Linked to the project is an aspiration to introduce a £1 day-ticket bus service dedicated to Llanelli town centre and surrounding areas, improving access and footfall.

The John Street Project is actively seeking community support and donations. Updates and engagement opportunities are available via their Facebook page: John Street Project.

I'm so excited for this event later this month, the first of what we hope will be a regular happening! Our lovely little back street in Hexham has become something of a creative's quarter over the past couple of years, so Yvette of Hanji, Rachel from Bureau of Dreams, James Spencer, Pete from The Wynd Gallery and myself are getting together to hold an open evening on Friday 26th September.
