In June, #CREA estimated that 435 tankers were used to export oil from #Russian ports - 153 of them were part of the "#shadow_fleet."

Now, some of these vessels may lose the right to sail under the world’s most sought-after flag - #Panama.

According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (#CREA), at least one-third of these tankers are over 20 years old. These are often ships that were meant to be scrapped but were instead bought up by #Russian companies from #Western owners - particularly #Greek shipowners.

Most of these tankers lack standard P&I (Protection & Indemnity) insurance, making them even more hazardous.
