This fascinating #species is distributed across the Holarctic and is common in #CentralEurope.

Well today was another school day for me. My daughter asked me to check out this 'ant' carrying a spider. It appears that this is a #dipogon #wasp carrying a #crabspider Until today I had never really considered spider wasps in the UK, only being aware of the classic tarantula hawk wasp that appears on nature documentaries (and has a special mention on the Schmidt sting pain index). This is of a different scale at around 10mm but what a joy to see in the back garden!

I found a crab spider in our garden. Last time we had one, it stayed for a while and I took loads of pictures. So be prepared to get more crab spider pictures in the near future.

The #crabspider #Ebrechtella #tricuspidata has a #palearctic native range and is widely distributed, but in Europe appears more often in the East and South. In Germany it is considered not very abundant, but common. It prefers warmth exposed moist areas. H. Guo et al. (2025) found that #femalechoice is focused on the #malesize only, while #male'choice (when #mating experienced) is towards #virginfemales.
