Lost a bit in the hubbub about Labour losing massively to the Reform UK is this little tidbit:

Wales is using a new proportional representation model!

There are 96 seats in the devolved parliament (Senedd).
There are 16 new constituencies created with six members each.
The 96 seats are allocated by share of the votes for a party, or by votes for an independent candidate.

Scotland already uses a mixed Constituency and Regional member system to get proportional representation in their parliament.

In England these votes are purely municipal/council/mayoral races. I'm not sure if they're proportional, ranked FPTP, or what.

And yet here we are in Canada, too afraid to change to a more democratic system.

So Reform are doing quite well in the council elections, but it's not exactly the landslide Farage was hoping for.

I'm now seeing images like this shared on Facebook; because they think we're crying at this result.

Well I have a few home truths.

1. The people currently voting reform likely don't even understand these are COUNCIL elections and have virtually no beating on Westminster.

2. We're not crying. Personally I was hoping for a Reform landslide because it will be a massive demonstration of the absolute incompetence of the buffoons who have stood for the council seats with absolutely no knowledge of how anything works.

3. It will hopefully hurt those who voted for the Turquoise Turds personally and financially so they may learn a lesson that perhaps Nigel Farage and his cronies are worse than the Tories.

So yes, you may think us lefties are crying; but no we're not. We're stocking up on microwave popcorn.

There’ll be a lot of people who don’t understand that Farage will not be Prime Minister on Friday morning, even if Reform takes the majority of council seats. Reform and the media know this, but are intent on projecting significance onto a routine election.
