@mhd Could do this with the "The Magicians" #CortexRPG hack pretty nicely. It has an enjoyable cumbersome mechanic for acquiring spells that could be tweaked to represent creatures in the wild.

Preparing to run #TravellerRPG, and I'm missing #CortexRPG and #Ironsworn for their GM support!

The traditional #TTRPG has rules, guides, and character sheets only for the players, leaving GMs with advice that amounts to "do a good job."

Heck, even #5e has the "adventuring day" budget, but nothing beats Cortex's "Doom Pool" for taking a mechanical load off the GM's mind. Likewise, Ironsworn's "Progress Tracks" manage pacing.

But in Traveller, what's stopping me from deploying thirty marines?

I am working on a system shim to use Cortex Lite with Mutants in the Now.

Mutants of the Now uses a sort-of modified Palladium system (since it's a spiritual successor of TMNT). For the right group, it's very good.

For the group I'm aiming for, less so.

Most of the basics work in Cortex Lit as is. One distinction will be "Mutant Animal" where you replace "Animal" with the type of animal you are (like "Mutant Ferret"). The other two are the standard belief behavior quirk.

Each character gets a fighting style which will be one of their starting specialties.

The rest of the character is made as normal in Cortex Lite except...

@thoughtpunks

#FateRPG and especially #CortexRPG taught me that character mechanics don't have to be "ability scores" and "skills". Other games might have showed me that games could include other metrics... but these two showed me that that a game doesn't even have to INCLUDE them.

#BarbariansOfLemuria is an old school action-adventure fantasy game about getting rich or dying trying. But what happens when you get rich?

You only get XP for explaining why your PC is poor and hungry again.

If you're at #BigBadCon, and not booked solid, come check out pirateROBO, my post-apocalyptic guerrilla mech #CortexRPG session: https://www.bigbadcon.com/events/piraterobo-2/

One aspect of #CortexRPG that I love is you can put anything you really want in the text of a trait, but it will always have the weight it's assigned in accordance with the appropriate stat distribution.

The result is that you can have Superman go up against J. Jonah Jameson and it will be a fairly matched fight— not because J. Jonah Jameson is a physical match for Superman, but because in the story he is of equal narrative importance.

If you can make it to the #SanFrancisco #SF #BayArea and like playing #TTRPGs and live action games, join me at #BigBadCon24 October 24th — October 27th!

I'll be running a #CortexRPG game called pirateROBO in which you play as giant fighting robot pilots at the end of the world. Come be at my table!

Ok, if you'd like to play a #TTRPG I'm running, I'm going to do a couple sessions of pirateROBO, a post-apocalyptic mecha game. It's going to be equal parts combat and social encounters, but don't worry about the mechanics: the #CortexRPG system is just handfuls of dice plucked from your character sheet. It's more cinematic, and less tactical.

Ping me if you want to play; I'm PST, but I'm flexible.

@domen Another aspect aat play here is that for the last 2 years the only game I've been running is #CortexRPG, specifically using the Doom Pool mod to set all difficulties from on one dice pool that shrinks and grows as a function of the PCs successes and failures. So I haven't needed to deal with statblocks or encounter composition, and I have grown complacent.
