LinkedIn Is Illegally Searching Your Computer

Microsoft is running one of the largest corporate espionage operations in modern history. Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm. The user is never asked. Never told. LinkedIn’s privacy policy does not mention it. Because LinkedIn knows each user’s real name, employer, and job title, it is not searching anonymous visitors. It is searching identified people at identified companies. Millions of companies. Every day. All over the world.

@[email protected] that happened to me, I'd literally tell this person, HR and all the CxO's that I'd consider this a firm of harrassment and mobbing and that I'll nit work on things that noone.could be bothered to write themselves.

  • Also such #AIslop should be banned organization-wide abd not being given any access or information. IDC how "insensitive" that info is; it's still #CorporateEspionage for a foreign (overseas) corporation!
    • In fact if I had done such shite, I would've been in jail for that!

🪟 Can your windows have ears?

It sounds like something out of a spy movie, but "laser microphones" are a very real threat to corporate and personal privacy. By pointing an invisible laser beam at a window pane, an eavesdropper can "read" the micro-vibrations caused by your voice and turn them back into crystal-clear audio—from over a mile away.

Can Someone Listen Through Your Windows? How Laser Microphones Work

With a device called a Laser Microphone, someone can listen to what you’re saying from hundreds of meters away.

And if you're employing a spy, the legal accountability is on YOU.

Suddenly outsourcing your recruiting & HR to save ops costs doesn't sound so brilliant, does it?

@zackwhittaker Also EVERY SINGLE "#AI" #Browser I've seen is some #EoL'd #Chromium - #Fork with shitty reskinning and all good features removed for more #AntiPrivacy #Malware (cuz that's what they are!) and a shitton of bad customizations.

  • These #applications - like all "AI" - are a net negative to the world and like "#AiEditors (e.g. #Cursor) they are in my eyes a *"guaranteed one way ticket out the door" with a single stop by at #HR with #legal because such malicious actions are at best 'criminal neglext' if not cause for opening up an investigation for #CorporateEspionage

Everyone who uses these "products" should be banned from touching anything more complex than a dialtone landline phone and a lightswitch for their life, because they have no legitimate reason to use these outside an #antivirus #reaearch lab!

@TonyRedmond If it was my decision, I'd fire everyone who uses #Copilot at #work, because it's a #violation of #DataProtectionStandards (no use of #Office365 / #Microsoft365 is allowed or even licensed/procured!) and violation of #ITsec standards (using unsanctioned #SaaS), and if it's not my decision, it'll be the #CISO|s to do so with #HR in a call, if not would get said offenders jailed for #CorporateEspionage!

@seabass @neil Yes and no.

  • Most OSes these days don't allow incoming connections at random and no reasonable software should expose i.e. servers on the network.

  • Even #WebDevelopers wanting to have a #httpd or #ngnix on the go will bind that to the loopbackinterface.

The few applications that don't do that have no reason to exist and are inherently #ITsec issues.

  • Again: If one can configure stuff to be bound to a specific #VPN then they also can plug that risk as well.

Most corporations use VPNs to fullfill ITsec requirements ranging from #PCIDSS to #HIPAA and from #GDPR to #BDSG as well as protect against #CorporateEspionage and #Hacking by literally only allowing #eMail access through the corporate VPN or #LAN.

  • But that's a different story, espechally for travelling consultants that have to access resources remote whilst in #cyberfascist juristictions (i.e. #USA & "P.R." #China)...
