Cornice Blast

A massive plume of snow erupts from a mountain cornice as an avalanche charge detonates, sending white powder billowing into a bright blue sky. Jagged peaks frame the blast, capturing the raw power and drama of controlled avalanche work high above the ski slopes. Captured near the backside of Snowbird Ski Resort.

Cornice Blast

A few years back I was out skiing at Snowbird Ski Resort in Salt Lake City and we had a tremendous amount of snow the day that we arrived at the resort.
The ski patrol was knocking down avalanches all night. After arriving at the top of the first chair on day 3, I was able to witness this explosion carefully planned by the ski patrol.
