A new copyright law for orphan works has passed, the State Library of Queensland hands off its awards and social media addiction is being tackled in court and in law and regulation.

Woah, the Copyright Amendment Bill 2026 passed the Senate today meaning Australia will very soon (the day after it receives the Royal Assent) have a scheme limiting remedies available when users use orphan works (copyright materials for which the copyright owner cannot be identified or located). This has been a long time coming so it is amazing to see it pass!
