I've had a hormonal IUS before, not a copper IUD coil.
jfc insertion is painful (but apparently not for other people??!) but not having to deal with condoms or the pill or anything? for YEARS?!

And the success rate is the highest or right up there. I think the arm implant is 1 pregnancy in 2000 couples over a year or two...? Unless that's the hormonal IUS.

ALSO THERE ARE DIFFERENT DOSES AND SIZES. If you're nulliparous (have never given birth) like me, GET THE SMALLEST, holy shit.
Why the flying fuck they bunged the massive Mirena in there, I've no fucking clue. Again: some people feel "mild discomfort" and other people do just feel some mild discomfort but not pain!

But yeah, even with the insertion pain, I'm getting an IUS again soon. It's just that damn convenient and reliable, I cannot lie.

Bleeding on the IUD

Copper IUDs may make bleeding heavier and more painful and hormone-releasing IUDs may make bleeding lighter.

Intrauterine System (IUS) | Contraception | NUPAS

The Intrauterine System (IUS), aka the hormonal coil, is a long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), with low hormone levels. Contraception options will be discussed during appointments.

NUPAS

The CDC has finally admitted that for many patients, getting an #IUD inserted can be a painful procedure, and #healthcare providers should discuss pain relief with them, including lidocaine and anesthetics.

I love my #CopperIUD and it is absolutely the best #contraception for me. (I can't take hormonal #BirthControl for health reasons.) I'm fortunate that my gyno was very willing to make the insertion procedure as comfortable for me as possible. But it still hurt! And plenty of people don't have understanding healthcare providers who care about their pain.

Hopefully this small change will help more people access birth control that they need. (We still need so much more, like #UniversalHealthCare and recognition that #ReproductiveRightsAreHumanRights, but this is something!)
