In April, the seas had record temperatures. It’s a big problem.
According to the latest data from Copernicus, water temperatures in April were the highest ever recorded by humans, after those of the same month in 2024. And with the El Niño phenomenon arriving in the coming months, it all suggests that they will rise further: “A warm ocean means that global warming is deeply rooted in the Earth’s system. We’ve been saying that for years. If we want to reach a point of no return, we are on the right track,” says Sandro Carniel of the CNR.
