Interesting case moving ahead under the BC Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. The representative plaintiff, Sutherland, claims that the "loot boxes" commonly found in video games sold by Electronic Arts (Canada) Inc, the defendant, constitute a deceptive practice under the province's consumer protection legislation. Still early stages, but the justice in this hearing found a cause of action and allowed the claim to move forward.
