Neuroscience shows strong correlations between brain activity and experience, but correlation alone does not establish that neural computation produces consciousness. Across diverse states—psychedelics, meditation, brain injury, and extreme physiological stress—rich experience can persist or even intensify when standard markers of neural activity are reduced or disrupted.
