I just got the agenda for upcoming #AsiaInVictoria #Summit. I'm excited to attend this #cultural #community conference!

I'm definitely taking part in the grant writing & fund development workshop. I haven't decided on the other workshops to take.

Maybe I will meet someone who speaks Teochew too! That would be so wonderful.

#LifecyclesProjectSociety #FruitTreeProject Update.

This year, we have harvested over 63,000 lbs of fruit! Of that, almost 32,000 lbs of Grade A fruit has been donated to the community, to over 70 community service agencies throughout the Greater Victoria Area. Our tree stewards have kept 4,500 lbs, and our amazing team of 191 Harvest Leads and Pickers have taken 13,000 lbs home.

What about the other 13,500 lbs you ask?

Made up of B-Grade, we have processed just over 7500 lbs into juice and jam. Some of the fruit is always C-Grade (compost). To date, we have composted just under 6000 lbs of fruit - while some of this has gone to our friends at Community Composting, the vast majority has gone to a local pig farmer.

We are proud to say no fruit has gone into the landfill!

LifeCycles Project — Cultivating Communities in Victoria, BC

LifeCycles Project cultivates community health by connecting people with the food they eat and the land it comes from. We support people in gaining the knowledge, skills and resources needed to access, grow and preserve local food in ways that foster biodiversity and enhance our urban environment.

This photo was sent to me via text.
It's from my friend, Jeff, whom I originally met off of Mastodon, back in 2022. We met in person in 2023 & exchanged plants🪴We've stayed friends over the years. We are working towards similar community building goals, in separate areas of the island. Ideally, would love to have a full food security, localized food systems 'spine', running West-East/South-North, across #VancouverIsland.
Jeff lives up island with his wife & kids. He also works in #nonprofit #FoodSecurity & #environmental #stewardship. He works for #Greenways #LandTrust in #CampbellRiver :

This shows some of the work they've done at Maple Park Community Garden in partnership with #Strathcona Regional District. They acquired that land to steward/grow, earlier this year 💚👩‍🌾👨‍🌾👏

#Pollinators Hedgerow Planting #WorkParty in #Metchosin. More #volunteers are needed!

The stellar Claire, who was one of our GWAS CBOs (Chief Birding Officer) this past summer, is completing her Restoration of Natural Systems (RNS) capstone project, and could use some extra hands with a #NativePlanting on Saturday November 22nd at #MetchosinFarm.

Please email to join the work party & let them know if you need carpooling ride too:

Thank you to the Town of #ViewRoyal for the funding for us to build an #accessible composting bathroom with a wheelchair ramp. We finished the pathway leading to the ramp. All possible due to the funding provided by View Royal town council 🙌

Seeds and Synergies. Cultural Foods meet the Good Food 2030 Strategy - please reserve your free tickets.

The #Seeds and #Synergies is a gathering that aims to bring together community members, growers, farmers, and farmers to be, facilitators, and partners from racialized groups to reflect on the role of #CulturallyRelevantCrops and #LandAccess in shaping the access of these groups to locally grown, healthy and nutritious foods, education, employment opportunities, income, and belonging to the land, to themselves and their communities.

For the past five years, #IyéCreative has been working with community members and local farmers to learn about cultural crops – plant relatives that carry deep meaning for our food, health, and traditions on Coast Salish lands. We’ve also been pushing for fairer land policies so more people can grow the foods and medicines that matter to them.

#CulturalFoods aren’t just products on a market, or grocery store shelf. They’re living connections that tie us to land, spirit, and each other.

We are inviting you to help us make this story come alive!
