I haven't focused on birds recently as they are in somewhat short supply right now – as is my patience to stalk them in freezing temperatures with a camera. However, I did encounter this common goldeneye last week. It was diving for food in a creek that was beginning to freeze over. Furthermore, the light reflecting off the water looked interesting so I decided to photograph the bird for a while.

I found a family of common goldeneyes at a secluded pond in Seurasaari in the evening about a week ago – a mother and its three ducklings. The cute youngsters were chasing small insects that were flying above the surface of the water while the mother kept an eye on them nearby. After a while, one of the ducklings started climbing a rock located in the middle of the pond and the mother followed behind it.

I wish I'd been there earlier in better light. Oh well...

I'm still trying to take decent pictures of the Common Goldeneye (Garrot à oeil d'or en français) that can be found nearby; they're always way out on the water, and backlit. Even with a tripod and 800mm lens, they always seem to be out of focus.
In this photo, I decided to boost the saturation (a lot) to get the colors of sunset (despite the photo being taken mid-day)

Taken with Nikon D850 and Sigma 300-800 at 800mm f/10 1/2000s ISO 500. Processed in darktable on linux.
