Catch me at the ballpark Episode 04 review

Announcements and appreciations… cause for a case

Vignette 1: Soul announcer – This vignette is about the announcer chirpy banter about a certain player, as it lifts the mood of the fans in the stadium. After having trouble coming up with new material she ropes in Ruriko in to helping her give some support. Left me with a slight fuzzy feeling, with a dose of hmmm

Vignette 2: The suggestion box incident Pt 1 – A two-part mini arc of who has been leaving a 10-page Ruriko appreciations messages in the suggestion box, it’s up to her to find out who were leaving them, so she whittles down the suspects. An amusing first arc

Vignette 3: The suggestion box incident Pt 2 – The conclusion of the small mini arc – left me with a small warm smile and a small chuckle

Thoughts on Episode 04 of catch me in the ballpark

Nagisa the soul announcer of the stadium

Vignette one was about the stadium’s announcer Nagisa. For about 5 years she has been playful teasing the best player. Each giving some funny quips about him, the point is to get the fans invested into the players and teams. I get that she has run of out material to use, however, to run into my favourite girl Ruriko who doesn’t strike me as someone who can write funny quips, is confusing. I mean she showed support to Nagisa, when she was struggling. The funniest bit is when Ruriko held the door to prevent Nagisa’s announcement being cut off, apparently aware of Nagisa’s potential hidden feelings towards Nokogiriyama, the best player. For the most part, this vignette didn’t really do much for me. Got me a chuckle here and there, but not much else. A let down I’d say

Yeah, dude the announcer has a big crush on you

Vignettes 2 and 3 were small little mini detective arc. They were about people leaving feedback and this one is about my favourite girl Ruriko, just who is the culprit that were leaving 10 appreciation messages to our favourite vendor girl. The plot isn’t heavy nor makes you think hard, it shows that Ruriko is charmingly dense, she gives these hard stares to the regulars (hint) and how it was revealed is a letdown. The answers were pretty handed to me, not that the answers weren’t screaming at you in the face. The spoiler is that all the regulars were the ones to show appreciation to our favourite vendor girl. As she brightens up their day, regardless of who they are. The other interesting thing is that Murata is becoming more accustom in to going and being around people at the stadium, usually he is one that keeps to himself. However, he greatly starting to appreciate the place. The mini arc is okay I thought.

The source of the caseDetective Ruriko is watching you!!

Overall Conclusion:

Not the best episode, the vignettes, they were pretty weak to be honest. The soul announcer is by far the weakest vignette of the three watched. The small mini arc was okay, its purpose did what I already had in mind, appreciating Ruriko, her personality is what makes the regulars day and make them comeback. I found it hilarious that Dennis Young in his English, calls her his goddess of baseball. Mind you this with a Japanese VA, so it had me chuckling

Thanks security!!!

Goddess, mascots and rah! rah!

Vignette 1: The goddess of baseball – Hahaha, this vignette focused on a baseball player called Dennis Young, from America. He is trying to get scouted back to the states as he is having a hard time adjusting to the way Japan baseball is played. And he spots my favourite vendor girl Ruriko. Instantly being drawn to her. Had me laughing at times, on just how dopey this vignette is.

Vignette 2: The invisible mascot – hahahaha, this vignette had me smiling. It focused on the motorsun’s mascot the enigmatic great salamander Sun-Shiro. As the mascot goes around giving advice to players and even to other staff members, had a good feel to it

Vignette 3: Rah! Rah! Rah! – This episode has a really sweet vibe to it, Murata and Ruriko are back, each one supporting the other to succeed in their roles. Loved the teasing Ruriko does to poor Murata, had me laughing

Thoughts on episode 3 of catcher in the ballpark

Doing good Dennis! how you

Vignette one tells the story of how Dennis Young an American baseball player, who is struggling to adapt to the life and playstyle in Japan. Wants to go back to the states, however, from what I can gather, he has a rather abysmal record? since coming to Japan. Being generally uninterested in making an effort with his teammates, that changed when he saw our beauty gyru Ruriko. I just had to laugh at how he was fixated on her, making such mistakes, like getting caught out, batted out. The hecklers added the comedy to this vignette, heckling out Dennis for how bad of a performance he is having. Ruriko to Dennis is a focal point of inspiration, making him actually make the effort and that is really helpful to him in a way. I do think there might be some interest from him to her, so Murata has competition there. The sheer irony is and what could be a running joke amongst the hecklers and Ruriko, she is a good luck charm to the team.

Shocking!!

Vignette two is an interesting one. This one focused on the mascot of the team, the silent Sun-shiro. It is never revealed as to who this person is, nor the gender. Sun-shiro went about helping a baseball player who was struggling with his form, via through a sketch pad. That’s how sun-shiro communicates with everyone. Not only did sun, help out, but is bilingual as well as they could communicate with Dennis in fluent English, making him feel involved with the team. Giving out advice to Yamada, who is thinking of her prince charming Murata, that it’s fine to ask a customer out. Or supporting Ruriko, who was struggling. The funniest thing is, she was contemplating of contacting her parents, when the advice given is reminiscent to what her mother would say, I do think it’s laying the groundwork that sun-shiro could be a lady underneath the costume, that’s just speculation on my part.

So how can you dance like?

Vignette three is a sweet one. Ruriko is struggling to meet the quota of selling 150 cups. Whilst Murata is trying to enjoy his meal and watching the baseball game. I do love the teasing Ruriko does to Murata, jokingly asking for 700 yen when he never bought a beer. The sweetest part I thought is when a snobbish couple walked past the two of them, upsetting her, when Murata had the courage to speak out in her defence. Which had him get teased again by her. I really like the two chemistry they obviously are attracted but can’t really admit it. The overlap is that Murata went over to Yamada to get some chicken, when he saw how Ruriko doesn’t think she can meet the quota. How it ends, is not surprising. Enjoyed this vignette

Oh you tease Ruriko!

Overall Conclusion:

Really enjoyed this episode. As it is confirmed that there will be overlaps with characters from previous vignettes or episodes. Telling a very feel-good story, with interactions being the main highlights. I do think they did a fairly good thing keeping Murata off from last episode, his meek personality can irritate some. I think the chemistry between Ruriko and Murata is something, the teasing is playful yet enjoyable.

Do you think Sun-shiro is a woman under that costume?

Thanks!!!

I'm Living With a Otaku NEET Kunoichi?! - Anime Review - Breaking it all Down

I’m Living With An Otaku NEET Kunoichi?! is a gag anime that aired in the Winter 2025 season, and was the fanservice show I went with this cour. It’s an okay example of its genre, and the jokes generally land fairly well, but the series is not without some issues.  The show follows Shizuri, a […]

Breaking it all Down

Can boy-girl friendship survive? – a question that is old as time

https://i.imgur.com/GbPXQzK.mp4

In a rural junior high school, a boy and a girl pledge eternal friendship, and two years pass without any progress in their relationship as they become destined for one dream…! Inuzuka Himari, a cheerful girl who has yet to find her first love, and Natsume Yu, a passive boy who loves flowers, are still best friends in their own gardening club in their second year of high school. “If Yu can’t get married, I’ll have to take responsibility for you.” “After Himari said that, I’m having a hard time because your brother started calling me, ‘My brother-in-law!'” However, when Yu reunites with his first love from the past, the wheels of their relationship suddenly go haywire! Will Himari, who has discovered love, be able to break free from her “ideal friend”?

Anime-Planet

Can a friendship remain platonic, or will the love triangle rise?

Alright, the new spring brings new love or in this case a love triangle. Danjo no or can boy-girl friendship survive, asks the question that is old as time. And honestly, the answer is; no. From the start, it is very obvious that Himari has some feelings towards Yu. Which is pretty much any setting for any high school romance, right? well, I do like the twist of throwing in a love triangle at the start and not like 5-7 episodes deep in.

The premises itself isn’t anything new, except the twist of throwing in a crush at the start. Which does make it an interesting dynamic between Yu, Himari and Rion. How will the three deal with each other’s feelings in what would be a very messy love triangle. Someone is bound to get hurt. Ah, those pesky teenage hormones raging! Yu, you two timing swine!

Danjo no tries to ask is, can a platonic relationship, stay platonic? and the answer is pretty much thrown in our faces, let alone answered

Yu the accessory maker using flowers, pretty good maker too

Yu is the leading ladies’ man, boy hell how do these milquetoast characters win these ladies over. Anyway, he is into flowers thus being in the gardening club, and making accessories, which he is really good at, pays attention to details – only if he did that with a certain someone hanging off of him *hint* all the time – that’s the one thing that annoys me about Yu and male characters like him, he has a girl that are practically throwing themselves, yet they pick the one that does the least for them, all because they’re pretty, lame. Himari notes that his eyes light up when he is focusing on the accessories or flowers. I have to say, Yu does have a knack for fashion accessory making, for those who love flower language, he gives a bit of a run down on their meanings. I do suspect his feeling will start to split as the series progress – what an idiot. Hard to tell if he is uninterested or in denial regarding Himari

Himari the energetic and cupid player, but has the arrow miss fired on her instead

Himari the bubbly, brash, energetic, out of the box thinking girl who bought Yu’s accessories back in middle school and thus began begun to be his model and promoter of his products. The promise made between the two is that, if Yu can’t have a store and sell his stuff by the age of 30, she’ll marry him – that is some foreshadowing or red herring right there. Apparently, she has been on dates, however not been in any romantic relationships. So, she has some experience, just nothing serious. Her “flirty” playfulness or banter with Yu is what makes their platonic relationship, interesting. Yu seems to be casually attracted to her, but nothing romantic as of yet. Himari on the other hand, is or was in denial about her feelings towards Yu.

Rion, can go kick rocks far as I’m concerned

Would I continue watching?

It isn’t gaming changing, however I do think the series is good, so I’ll keep watching. I do theorise Yu will come to a crossroad on his feelings as to who he really wants

What did you think of the series?

Fans, fans and how to be good at the job

Vignette 1: The Definition of a baseball fan – this vignette was about what makes a fan, a real fan not just some armchair commentators, who quit supporting the player or team because of a bad streak. This vignette showed a wife of one player supporting her husband baseball player, whilst Ruriko is basically clueless at the sport. Bless her. I actually enjoyed it, had me laughing at times.

Vignette 2: No! Never! – In this vignette it’s all about safety of the vendor girls and of course the ever not so obvious, ninsta aka instagram. The vendors girls go over on how to keep distance but still have a cordial interaction with their regulars. Poor Ruriko, it wasn’t until she met 3 sleazebags that come around trying it on, that she ends up going viral, which had me laughing.

Vignette 3: The head scarf of innocence – In the final one. It’s more about Natsumo Yamada, a vendor who has dreams of being a vendor girl. When in reality, she works as a concession worker, her work ethics are above others, in the process; gets a raise, a promotion all in one day. She has misgivings of her positions, however after seeing Miku, she reevaluates her role. Not too keen on this one.

Reign of the seven spell blades Episode 1: HP the anime

Thoughts on episode 2 of catcher in the ballpark:

A person who likes sports I guess?

Vignette one, I didn’t point out that Ruriko is gyaru, so she stands out. However, she is utterly clueless in baseball. I had to laugh how she just blagged her knowledge in vignette one, she didn’t know what HSQ (high sports quality) or wrc is, I don’t know either, bottom line is, she didn’t either. Which is what made me laugh. Also in the first vignette, a wife of one of the baseball players called Yuki Takino, she doesn’t reveal her status till a little later on. She comments on how fans are very fickle, whether it is the team performance or even the players – they get it really bad from the fans with their scathing comments. Her displeasure of fans was evident, because of how quick they are to think ill of her husband yet were all happy when he scored a home run. Now, what made me laugh is that the info Ruriko got is from none other than Murata.

Yes, well said Yuki

In vignette two, I was introduced to some of the other vendor girls: Sara, Kokoro, Aona, Kohinata. These 4 are more experienced than Ruriko. Who started out just a week. I did feel they brushed or glazed over the safety and the three sleaze bags’ behaviours a bit. Who was trying it on with all of them. The stadium had something called checkers, to ensure the vendor girls don’t get harassed by the fans. The episode did focus on what the girls can do, to ensure that they don’t rile up the fans. And that is use ninsta, to keep their personal info private whilst using it to still interact with the fans, most fans know to keep their distance. The comical aspect of this episode is how social media inept Ruriko is, I’m sure most would like to be. As she couldn’t even set up an account, never mind using it. I had to laugh how; she ended up being viral on it though. It also showed how feisty Ruriko is.

Yeah, to what Ruriko?Sure, the area is: you can’t find it sleazebag

The final vignette didn’t really do much for me. It focused on a concession worker named Natsumo Yamada. She had a dream of being a vendor girl, that didn’t happen. Her reason is shallow I thought, she wanted to show off her legs – main reason she wanted a flower in her hair. That didn’t happen as she applied for the wrong position. That’s on her. I can’t fault on the work ethics that she has, considering that she not only a raise of a 100 yen, also a promotion as shift leader as well. All in one episode, dang, all the hard work paid off. The point of this episode, I’m guessing is that. If you’re appreciated, your effort will pay off at some point. And not to take it for granted. I was correct as well. Some of the previous characters did make a cameo. There is hint of romance for Yamada though. Looks like Ruriko has competition.

Such fate for Yamada!

Overall Conclusion:

I did enjoy the episode particular the comedy, did think the flow of the episodes is a bit loose this time I thought. Which is fine, as they are small stories being told, through interconnecting with each other. Which confirms what I thought from the first episode. As proof of the cameos made by characters from the previous episode. Indicating, the series will be episodic with fairly contained stories that might overlap, I don’t expect it to be though.

That you’re a cutie Ruriko?!

Which girl are you rooting for: Ruriko or Yamada to win Murata’s heart? Do you think there will be more stories interconnecting with the players, like with Yuki story?

Catch me at the ballpark Episode 01 review

Beers, baseball, well batter up!

I messed up, this aired 2 days ago, so I’m already behind!!! yikes. Anyway, catch me at the ballpark isn’t as much of a sports series. Sure, it is based in a baseball stadium, one which I don’t have any issues with. I’m sure there will be a bit more baseball action, since it is seen as a sports anime. And there are few scenes of baseball being played.

I don’t think it is the main focal point however, more of a setting for the main interactions for the cast. Murata and Ruriko in particular. There are other characters, I’m guessing they’ll be more of a side story, possibly even main, giving a bit more depth to the not so much sports plot, if you get what I mean.

What I should mention is these are vignettes. Split into three. Each telling a small story that is based in and around the baseball stadium. So, I’ll be curious to see how this all goes. And how they interlink with each other.

<< Previous episode 00

You can sneak up on me any time Ruriko!

Characters

Shocked that a female vendor might be attracted to you Murata?

Murata is the main character and focal point of the story. Being an overworked corpo guy, who clearly doesn’t get much sleep. Never mind having much interaction with others. Since he opted to sit away from the cheering fans. However, that did change when he met our leading lady Ruriko. In terms of what I think of him; he isn’t standing out so far within the first two small vignettes, nor do I find him compelling. Clearly, he is attracted to Ruriko, but isn’t being honest with himself. I do expect him to get more involvement with the story as he shows up in more vignettes.

I’d sigh too, the blonde beauty that is Ruriko

Ruriko. Oh boy, she is the star of the show. I do love her personality. Being flirty to our boy Murata. When in reality she isn’t as confident as she actually puts out. And is a bit of an air head, like when a fan wanted to buy a beer, she was too zoned out to notice. Her interaction with Murata is the main focal point and obvious attraction, heck she spells it out to him and me, the viewer the foreshadowing of the two falling for each other. She appears in all three vignettes, two of them with Murata and one with other staff members in the baseball stadium. In short, I do find her a bit compelling, clearly, she is exaggerating bits of her personality in order to cope with the stress, nothing wrong with that.

Senior security Mr Iga reporting to dutyTakimoto is in utter awe at how he got the job

Mr Iga and Takimoto. I’m putting these two together as they are interlinked with each other. Mr Iga has been working at the stadium for a very long time, a senior staff member. Whilst Takimoto seems to have joined. Takimoto doesn’t have a soft spot for kids, as his run in with Ruriko in the third vignette shows. However, a memory surfaced when Mr Iga gave Miku a 4yr old kid a candy. Takimoto remembered that this is the Mr candy that came to him all those years ago. I do find the two characters quite compelling, one that shows stability in the stadium and the other showing youth. Both coming together in working together.

Final thoughts on episode 1 of catch me in the ballpark:

I’m surprised by the structure of the show. I actually expected a full-on sports show, not these small little vignettes being told. About those vignettes, I do think they tell a nice story, each vignette flow into each other well, both potentially interlinking the cast with each other, baseball players could be involved, I’m skeptical on that though. Despite the structure, I did find myself enjoying it. Don’t think this will be show of the season. Just something to watch. As for how I’ll continue doing episode reviews for catch me at the ballpark. I’ll give my thoughts on the three vignettes. I doubt they’ll be heavy writing.

Do you guys think Murata will improve as the series progresses? what are your thoughts on Ruriko?

What ya mean!!!
