I will be holding my seminar series "The Phenomenon of Colour" again in 2025.

I am thinking of designing an info-poster for it. If any former students/participants have artwork that I can use for the posters, please feel free to send it my way !

Details of the 2024 edition:

I will be adding a new seminar: "Colour in Informatics" to the programme.

The Phenomenon of Color | Tushar Chauhan

The phenomenon of Color - From Newton to Darwin, is a series of lectures exploring the significance of colour in biological vision.

I've had a go at adding a very rough simulation of colour vision deficiency to my colour palette maker, so I don't accidentally pick colours that look fine for me but are indistinguishable to someone with different colour vision.

I spent 10 minutes looking up perceptual models of CVD then gave up and just did what Firefox dev tools does and scaled down the R, G or B components ๐Ÿ˜…

Colour palette maker for colourblind CLP

A tool to help me, with limited colour vision, make accessible colour palettes.

Thrilled for the start of #ICVS2024! (International Colour Vision Society Meeting)

Ensuring #maps are #accessible for everyone means testing what someone with #ColourVision deficiency will see. #qgis preview allows this. The screenshots below contrast what someone with #deuteranopia or #protanopia will see compared with the full colour #image
A brilliant tool for selecting the most appropriate combination of colours.

Monkey beetles are just cool and fascinating (and often colourful). And those regions of South Africa seem to have a higher than expected number of these red and orange flowers that are not particularly visible to bees. Is there some sort of coevolution between monkey beetles and flowers? #ColourVision

I will be holding a short seminar series starting this Monday, titled:

"The Phenomenon of Color: From Newton to Darwin".

More details here: https://tusharchauhan.com/courses/the-phenomenon-of-color/

I'm afraid I couldn't figure out the zoom logistics on time, so it is in-person only.

Sea snakes may have evolved to see colors again

A new paper in Genome Biology and Evolution finds that the annulated sea snake, a species of venomous snake found in ocean waters around Australia and Asia, appears to have evolved to see an extended palette of colors after its ancestors lost that ability in response to changing environments.

I was asked to review this paper last year for inclusion in the journal "Developmental Science" and agreed on the condition that I could share my review publicly, and they asked that I wait until the article had been published. It now has!

Brilliant paper, give it a read if you're into #ColourVision!
