I have just experienced that rarest of events: A repair technician not only fixed my broken clothes washer at a reasonable price, he actually left the machine better than it was before it broke down. Turns out the power cord had severed internally because a part had come loose and the drum was banging on it. I thought the banging was normal, but it wasn't. Now, it's working again and, when the drum spins, it's quiet as a mouse.

Final update: Rhode Island bike paths are now useable between Hollywood and Indian. Still a lot of sand, but it's all dry and compacted. Repairs continue on the west side service road, but cars can use it.
Update to yesterday: Water main flood on Rhode Island is stopped. Lots of sand still in the bike lanes on both sides (where does that come from?). West side service road blocked south of Hollywood. BIG sandy sludge pile at the Indian bus stop (hop up onto the sidewalk if you do use the bike path to there). Recommend continued use of east side service road from Hollywood to south of Indian for now.
