Hostel vs hotel for a Japan card trip. The math that matters.

Hostel dorm in Tokyo: $25-35 per night. Mid-range hotel: $80-100. That gap is $40-60 per night.

Over five nights: $200-300 saved. That's a meaningful Gold Star purchase, or 5-7 additional singles at good shops.

Japan hostels are extremely safe and clean. Lockers for valuables are standard.

The card-first philosophy: minimize accommodation. Redirect it to the reason you flew to Japan. #Pokemon #JapanTravel #Collecting

PDG Collector's Shop honest ranking across five cities: Tokyo (4/5) beautiful high-end cards on display, Osaka Namba (4/5) I found my Regice Gold Star here, Nagoya (4.25/5) strong PSA 10s at good prices. Hiroshima (3/5) limited, lower priority. Sendai (3.75/5) decent pricing, limited variety. Cash Only at every single branch without exception. Always bring sufficient yen before walking in. Tokyo and Osaka are the two branches worth dedicating real time to. #Pokemon #PokemonTCG #Collecting #Japan

The oripa gamble at Japanese card shops. My honest take.

Oripa are lottery-style pulls at some shops. You pay a set price for a random card. The odds are set by the shop and never published. Once the top prizes are pulled, expected value tanks.

The same budget spent on "damaged" singles at C-Labo or Ninnin gets you real cards at prices you can inspect yourself.

If you try it, treat it as gambling. Set a budget and stop when it's gone. #Pokemon #Collecting #TCG #PokemonTCG

Tidied up my music collection. Got a separate box for my 7-inches now as they were getting lost and difficult to look through on the shelf with the LPs. #music #collecting #vinyl

Japan Pokémon card shops that are Cash Only. The ones that matter.

Confirmed Cash Only: PDG (all branches), Magi Akihabara 5F, some Ninnin branches, Toreka Abyss Shibuya, Card Shop Allium Osaka, Shinsoku Shinjuku, Treka Crown Shibuya.

The fix: 7-Eleven ATMs accept most foreign cards. Carry 30,000-50,000 yen when card hunting.

Nothing worse than finding a grail and not being able to pay.
