I made fresh corn tortillas for the first time last night and I LOVE them. Gluten free store-bought tortillas are always disappointing. These fresh ones have such a good mouthfeel and they don't crack right away. And only two ingredients?!

Now I have to make them often enough to convince my husband it's worth buying a tortilla press and a tortilla warmer and maybe a comal...

Thank you, Mexico and South America!

@tamsin I'm not sure if you can get testing kits.
Our eldest is very sensitive to gluten, so we stick to things that are clearly gluten-free (fruit, veg...) anything with the crossed grain logo and we avoided anything containing oats.

Having separate spreads, toaster bags helps. (Apologies if you're already doing this, but these are things that caught us out!)

Oats contain avenin, a protein similar to gluten, that most coeliacs are unaffected by. We suspect our eldest was possibly sensitive to it as well.

Any Q's, just ask.

Anyone with Celiac disease out there know if it is possible to get a kit for testing food for contamination (in the UK)? My daughter's blood tests show she is consuming gluten but we buy certified gluten free everything and are super careful with chopping boards etc.

Coeliac Awareness Week 2026

Coeliac Australia

This lovely story that hit our inbox instead of Sara Cox’s (we hope it made it to her too) is a great example of #kindness in friendship and some M&S employees going above and beyond.

β€œMy friend just found out she’s #coeliac and was sad about having to give up her favourite snacks. Luckily another coeliac friend recommended some chocolatey favourites so I could pass that on and also told me about the new GF Colin the Caterpillar that M&S had just released."

Learnt this week that removing gluten from the diet of people with an inactive coeliac gene increases the risk of developing the disease.

Found-out because I asked my kid's doctor about the whole house going GF, and he advised against it.

I don't use this mug often, but I took it out of the cupboard after watching our garden robin scrabbling about in the snow today, trying to find the food that I know we've put out for him.
Also, I am very happy to have realised, after years of abstinence, that my favourite Lindt chocolates are gluten-free. I can ignore the mention of barley on the packet now that the company has issued a statement on their website. πŸ₯³

I'd had a small amount of that with some cheese - and it's got barley in.

Lesson learned.

Okay so we have the results. Let's have some fun. Is it: ach who cares, a new oven means not having to worry about a stray crumb of gluten poisoning our #coeliac daughter on Christmas Day, or: thank god we don't have to find Β£500 for a new cooker even though that one's a bit naff and I wouldn't have minded an upgrade. I'm celiac, and I ate wheat today. Knowingly. That was for croissants without gluten apparently, from specially processed wheat. I still don't feel that this was a great idea, but I wanted to try that.
