Me and the #EVi maintainers team are working on a website using #Codeberg pages!

of course, it won't stay like this but, we're working on it heavily and eventually we'll have a domain name for it!

Woke up this morning with a new #Linux #vulnerability in my inbox, Dirty Frag (https://github.com/V4bel/dirtyfrag). #ansible role for mitigation has been created for an 'asap' workaround.

Decided to join forces and share knowledge (and code) together with some fellow #opensource minded people at our newly created #Codeberg repo: https://codeberg.org/open-sourcerers/cve_mitigations

Syncing GitHub to GitLab and Codeberg

I've had a GitLab account since December 2017. This came about because of the new job I started in January 2018. They used a self-hosted internal instance of GitLab for all their code, so it made sense I get familiar with it (it wasn't hard; especially back in 2017 it was near enough a clone of GitHub in terms of what it did). Since then, though, I've never really done anything with it. I think I had a repo or two on there for a short while, but I must have nuked them at some point because the account has been empty for the longest time.

Call me impressed: #codeberg pages are slightly less annoying to setup than #github #pages 😎
So looking at the #GitHub alternatives, I’ve been hosting my own #Forgejo server for a while. However, it’s great for me but the collaboration part kind of sucks because you need an account on my instance to submit a PR or issue. I have looked at #codeberg and it seems great but it’s in Europe and the site feels sluggish for me compared with my hosted instance here US based. So wondering if there is anything maybe I’m doing wrong or missing in this situation.

Well, it's official, I have torn down my site from surge.sh. Kind of sad since it was my first and only blog home.

The site's new home is Codeberg (ICYMI):

Site: https://readbeanicecream.codeberg.page/
RSS: https://readbeanicecream.codeberg.page/feed_rss_created.xml

So update your bookmarks and RSS feeds!

I still like the surge project and will keep my surge related posts there for informational purposes.

Trying to do something with #Codeberg and... all I did was open it! https://blog.davep.org/2026/05/07/all-i-did-was-open-it.html
All I did was open it

I'm out and about, MacBook Air in tow, with a couple of hours to kill. So I dip into a coffee shop and decide to tinker with stuff. I open up Codeberg and...

@hugovk the writing has been on the wall for a long time. Shockingly it turns out that #GitHub uptime isn't really better than #codeberg anymore, so the only really good excuse to keep using GitHub is if you're hugely reliant on free CI minutes.

I sympathize and am in the same boat. I have been wondering for a bit, if it might be viable to have some simple automation that mirrors any PRs on codeberg to GitHub just to run CI, then report back on codeberg.

Today the status site is all green, but filing an issue still takes *several minutes* to show up on the issue tracker. It has been instant for… over a decade? But somehow now that’s just flaky.

Maybe this is the kick I needed to finally explore alternatives more seriously. Codeberg is looking good to me right about now.
