An old road surface on South Woodside Road leading under the Great Western Road Bridge in the Kelvinbridge area of Glasgow. This leads down to where the Woodside Paper Mill stood (a site now occupied by a car park for the subway station) until around 1890.

While sections of wooden paving survive in London, I've never come across another example in Glasgow. The terrace itself was built in the 1850s, and it may well represent the original street surface in this area. Only a few of these wooden setts have survived and will soon disappear once more when the new modern road surface is laid on top of them.

Some encounters just happen – and stay with you. Early in the morning, I wandered through the quiet streets of Trastevere, looking for a coffee. Suddenly, she appeared and walked with me as if it were the most natural thing in the world. She patiently waited while I enjoyed my espresso and was delighted to get the last bites of my Cornuto. A simple moment, captured in the heart of Rome.

Cobbled streets, like Regent Moray Street in the West End of Glasgow, are nice, but it's important the stone setts are replace properly after any work is carried out on utilities beneath them, rather than just randomly chucking them back into a poorly filled hole as seems have been the case here!
