Medical Institutions, Cut Ties With Curtis Bay Energy Medical Waste Incinerator!
We, the undersigned, join the South Baltimore Community Land Trust in expressing our grave concern regarding the recent revelations surrounding the Curtis Bay medical waste incinerator (aka Curtis Bay Energy). It has come to our attention that this facility has engaged in criminal acts and displayed a flagrant disregard for the safe treatment of medical waste, endangering the well-being of South Baltimore communities. In light of these distressing revelations, SBCLT urgently calls upon all regional medical waste generators to immediately sever their ties with this facility. We cannot stand idly by while medical institutions, entrusted with the sacred duty of healing, send their waste to our community, threatening the health and well-being of our residents. It is imperative that we hold accountable those responsible for compromising the safety and health of our community. Furthermore, SBCLT joined with the Community of Curtis Bay Association in its appeal to Governor Wes Moore to declare an air pollution emergency in Curtis Bay. We implore him to utilize his executive powers to address the unacceptable levels of pollution and the detrimental health impacts that the numerous facilities surrounding our community pose to our residents and workers. The well-being and safety of our community are paramount, and we stand united in our pursuit of environmental justice and a healthier, more sustainable future for all. We call upon all stakeholders, both within our community and beyond, to join us in this critical endeavor.
