@ice I'm doing more volume with my #kettlebell recently, and I remember we chatted a bit on the topic. I bookmarked the link to the supplier (Eryx).
As my birthday is coming, I'm considering an adjustable KB (it was somewhat planned)... but I'm also looking also at #clubbells.
Do you find it would be a complementary addition ? (I train with KBs and suspenser/calisthenics, for force and health)
If yes, would you recommend to get 2 clubbells, or one is enough ? I mailed Eryx with this question, but no answers yet.
Here's a #fitness question that's been plaguing my brain for years.
In #clubbells, or #steelclubs, or #heavyclubs, well, #clubs training, there's this classic exercise called the shield cast, which can be done with one or two hands.
You hold the club in front of you, elbows touching your sides. Then you move it towards your ear opposite to the hand you're holding the club with (or your top hand). The club swings behind your back, and comes back on the other side in the same position.
But there's another exercise named the gama (or gamma) cast, which is basically a reversed shield cast. The club goes up on the same side as the hand holding it. And that's where things go blurry.
First of all, nobody seems to know if it's spelled with one or two M. Gamma sounds Greek. Gama sounds Indian. Clubs are known to come from extremely ancient traditions, likely South Asia. Is adding a M a common typo? Is it the right spelling?
More importantly, it's not clear if the gama cast is a separate exercise, or if it's the name given to an upgraded shield cast in two parts that includes its mirrored counterpart.
I never saw a gama cast without a shield cast first. Does it exist without it? One or two M? Auuugh this is driving me mad.
I've been doing #clubbells workouts five time a week since June, from two different programs, one-handed and two-handed.
And I love it, but while it's excellent for mobility, coordination and general core strength, it's extremely progressive in weight and meant to span over years before getting to the actually big clubs, so it's not very cardio-intensive.
Also, call me a masochist but I miss the soreness from heavy workouts. So I'm adding a third program in the mix with #kettlebells, focused on fat loss. Not that I have much fat to shed but I've been cutting since forever and I barely see my abs.
So I may as well speed up the process before bulking up again and repeating this utterly absurd and vain yet satisfying cycle.
This morning, I finally reached the part of my #clubbells program where I do the whole thing again, but with a 10 kg club instead of a 8 kg club.
Well, a 2 kg difference may not sound like a lot, but let me tell you that when it comes to swinging steel clubs, it's quite humbling.
An efficient reminder that all the fancy moves you've managed to learn with 8 kg now need to be relearned because your technique sucks, but you couldn't realize it before, and that's the way it's supposed to be.
Dusted off the #Clubbells. Yesterday was for the upper body, today was legs day. That was a couple of damn brutal workouts. Not sure I’ll be able to get out of bed tomorrow, and if I do I’ll certainly regret it. It’s still my favorite way of getting extremely sore :)
Bonus pic: I hope you like Five Fingers.
I’m currently practicing #clubbells four mornings a week, #kettlebell in the evening, and #yoga on rest days. I would have never believed this a couple of years ago, but it seems I’m actually enjoying physical activity and I’m even craving for more?
I’m also closely watching my macros and optimizing my diet while doing a cut, because I’d like to see if I can get truly ripped, with defined abs. I don’t know why. It’s like any of my other silly projects.
But without involving a damn computer!
It's been four days and I'm still sore from that previous #kettlebell + push-ups workout, despite practicing #clubbells four times a week and yoga on rest days.
So I just did it again :)
I just had the surprise to notice that #clubbells training is extremely helpful to handle a #scythe. I was able to go much faster than last year, with wide yet precise swings.
I still suck at handling a scythe, but I feel I'm getting the hang of it. Balance, pace and angle are starting to all come together.
It feels infinitely more satisfying than using a lawnmower, even a mechanical one. Possibly because it reminds me of my grandfather.
It's way better... except for blisters.
Just survived a 1-hour #clubbells session outside at 1°C. It was sunny so I didn't even think about the temperature, but I sure felt it. Between learning new moves, shooing the cat away and trying to keep a correct grip despite of my sleeves getting in the way, it was pretty clumsy but enjoyable.
I suck at performing that badass warrior move where I'm supposed to repeatedly unsheathe and sheathe two 8 kg steel clubs simultaneously from behind my back, but at least my wrists still work.
