"Cooling demand is expected to triple by 2050, driven by rising temperatures, growing populations, and expanding access to inefficient cooling systems. Without intervention, emissions from cooling could nearly double"

Keeping cool on a hotter planet: COP30 pushes for sustainable cooling and AI innovation

As the planet heats up, so does the race for smarter, cleaner technology. At COP30 in Belém, Brazil, delegates are weighing a paradox at the heart of climate innovation: how to harness powerful tools like artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced cooling systems without deepening the very crisis they aim to solve.

“The #environment is very cluttered already. Satellites are constantly dodging right and left. As long as we are emitting greenhouse gases, we are increasing the probability that we see more collision events between objects in #space.” https://www.texasobserver.org/earth-orbit-satellites-greenhouse-gases-spacex/

Earth Orbit Is Filling Up with Junk. Greenhouse Gases Worsen the Problem.

By the end of the century, a shrinking atmosphere could create a minefield for satellites, like those deployed by SpaceX's Starlink.

"Trees and land absorbed almost no CO₂ last year. Is nature’s carbon sink failing?"

PS: Here's a parochial take on this global news. I live in rural #Maine where most of us heat our homes in winter with wood stoves. We thought wood burning was carbon neutral — that CO₂ emitted by burning was roughly offset by CO₂ captured by still-growing forests. It looks like that theory, at best, is no longer true. Time to spread the word.

The sudden collapse of carbon sinks was not factored into climate models – and could rapidly accelerate global heating
