#Cliftonville, a ward in a seaside town #Margate in #Kent has moved from Reform to the Greens. Many congratulations to the #Greens and Rob Yates. Hope this is a wake up call for #Labour. Core supporters are fed up with Labour's dog whistle & war mongering politics. I was with family in Margate over Easter and saw all the Green posters. We ran into Rob Yates and his supporters & wished him all the best. He was not confident then of winning so v happy that he defeated Reform. #UKPol

A minor political earthquake shook #Kent this morning after the #GreenParty defied expectations to snatch victory at a crunch by-election.

The Greens’ decisive win in the #Cliftonville division of Kent County Council (#KCC) came after an intense two month campaign into which four of the main parties threw huge resources

For #Reform UK, it was the first by-election to be fought since their massive victory at KCC last year and was regarded as a “must win”

But they did not win.

They failed.

some background info on the new #KCC #green counciilor for #Cliftonville Rob Yeates:

"When the Home Office was sending coaches to remove people from the 'migrant hotel' in Margate and sending them to the Bibi Stockholm he mobilised 100+ people to block the coaches, he did that several times, until Home Office eventually gave up"

Sorry if I am going on about #Cliftonville
but in May at the Locals last year Reform got 40% of the vote. and the Greens got 12%

This year the #Greens got 39% of the vote

This means that Reform, which once had 57 out of 81 #KCC seats now have 47!

wonder if it's too early to start celebrating?
