Flynn 1.0.1 is released and usable for day-to-day telnet things.

I dropped it into a few shared folders on #globaltalk shares and added it to both Macintosh Garden and Macintosh Repository.

Feel free to try it out, test it, break it and let me know of any issues. I already have a list of features to add to 2.0 and plan to start working on those later this week.

I’m not a fan of self-boosting, but I realised I was remiss in not putting some hashtags on this post after it started gaining the small amount of traction it has.

For those who boosted or liked the original, I’m not asking or expecting a repeat. I just hope with these hashtags it gets a little more traction to acknowledge the genius of #BillAtkinson, who affected so many lives through the genius work he did.

I know he impacted many aspects of my life through the work he did on the Mac, the original System, and MacPaint, and it seems many others were similarly impacted.

It’s been truly inspiring for me to see Mac legends talk how he put the lie to the saying “Never meet your heroes”, as he seemed to have been a hero to many, and never a disappointment in person.

RIP, Bill.

Just a reminder that the original Myst was developed using HyperCard, one of Bill Atkinson’s many masterpieces. But I’ll always remember how he thought overlapping windows (or perhaps the smooth movement of windows over each other) was a solveable problem because he recalled seeing that Xerox had solved it (they hadn’t), so he just worked it out because he then thought it could be. An amazing mind, now lost to us. RIP Bill, and thank you!

Funny enough, I only ever saw a handful of examples of it back in the 90s, all in stock photos within HyperCard. I don't recall seeing a single #ClassicMacintosh application that supported it at the time.

Fortunately there's plenty of support for it today, both on mobile and desktop.

The SE/30 was one of my grail machines, because I had a regular SE, and I always dreamed about having a machine that would be ~3+ times faster ;)

The color classic was so adorkable. I remember seeing 10" trinitrons on fancy pay phones in the early 90s and thinking, "Why can't Apple make a classic mac with THIS screen??" Surely enough, they did!

It's funny now that I so fondly reminisce about #monochrome interfaces like #ClassicMacintosh and #OpenLook / #OpenWindows, because back then, I literally dreamed of having color, especially the #Amiga! ;)

#Programming project #PipeDream: come up with my own #SerenityOS-like project, but instead of a love letter to 32-bit windows machines, make it a love letter to 16/24-bit #ClassicMacintosh and other monochrome machines like early Unix workstations. ;)

35 years ago today, this beautiful machine came into my life.
This photo was taken in 2011, two years before I sadly gave it away (due to a rushed interstate move).
