Holiday #boardgame 5 is #BattleTech #AlphaStrike with #ClanJadeFalcon facing the #TaurianConcordat in King of The Hill for 3 turns.
First time Trying out my Aerospace Fighters with my #clanjadefalcon Gamma Galaxy forces against the #FreeWorldsLeague's Tamarind Regulars. It didn't go well.

We each had a +1 BI initiative bonus, RCN for the Falcons, MHQ4 for the FWL.

The fighters were shot down on turn 1 but took out the Battlemaster with the master computer for the enemy C3 network. So we each only get that first turn to play with our respective gimmicks and the FWL loose their initiative bonus. Not that it mattered as the Falcons won initiative by a wide margin each turn, then rolled really badly to hit.

The remaining two turns were me trying to pick off elements of the FWL heavy tank column without letting it focus fire on me and trying to land some NARC beacons to boost damage for my missile heavy force. The dice just were not in my favour tonight though.

Finished off both the flight and ground/taxiing stands. I tried to paint the handle of the telescopic wands I used for the flight stands to match the bases fading to a pale grey at the top which kind of blends into the metal of the telescope mechanism and also looks like atmospheric haze.

For the taxiing stands I finished them off by painting the landing gear and the edges. I didn't bother with front and back face markings like I did for the ground units as I probably won't use the taxi bases much. I might change my mind about that later.

Finished the minis proper with cockpits in colour shift and jeweled the lasers. Then final layers of matt varnish, with gloss over the cockpits and lasers and satin over the tails of the Shilones.

The taxi bases were a bit of an experiment, a dark grey base, then progressive layers mixing in bone white and spraying lightly from far away to give some fine speckles. Then chipping varnish and masked off the centre markings and painted them white. Chipped off a few places around the edges then streaking with lamp black oil paint. After that cured a messy wash with titanium white snow for the Visigoths and with a bit of Azo Brown added to the white to make the runway dusty for the Shilone bases.

The snowy flight bases for the Visigoths also got my standard snow treatment of highly dilute Highlord Blue, dry brushed white, and a bit of white mica flake. I'll also be adding a bit of mica to the snow blown taxi bases, and maybe to the sand dune flight bases.

Added the decals to the Visigoths and oil washed all of them with Van Dyke Brown. Once the oil paint cures I'll probably do another heavier, streakier layer on the underside. I might also do some streaks in front of what I assume are the missile launcher pods on top of the wings of the visigoths.

Used some panel liner to bring out the intakes and blacked out the cockpits and lasers. Added jade green feather highlights on the Visigoths and decals on the Shilones. Still trying to figure out where I'll put decals on the Visigoths.

Also added some position lights.

The feathers were seriously stressful but I think they turned out decently.

Speedpaint, diluted with medium to add a bit of depth. Holy white over the whole of the Visigoths and the underside of the Shilones. Palid Bone over the top surface. Then dry brushed with the base colour, with a bit more Bone White in the mix for the tan. Winter camo on the Visigoths continued the same way I did my #ClanJadeFalcon mechs.

For the Shilones I did gloss black on the tails and engines then Vallejo Silver. The tails got a mix of Absolution Green and Orc Skin speedpaint like my #TaurianConcordat mechs and the engines got Gravelord Grey. The green was a bit streaky, I probably should have varnished between the silver and speed paint. Then some Bloody Red highlights.

Progress on my Aerospace Fighters. Plague brown with wolf grey underside for the #TaurianConcordat and 10:1 arctic white : bone white with 20:1 ghost grey : electric blue for #ClanJadeFalcon which will be getting the same winter camo pattern as the rest of my Gamma Galaxy forces. Snow bases are sculpted air dry clay and will be getting some light blue speed paint and white mica flake. The sand dunes are the same air dry clay sculpted differently then painted khaki, dry brushed, washed, and dry brushed some more. They came out a bit darker than I'd hoped.
Another game of #AlphaStrike. Same opponent but different units from last time. I forgot to get a picture of turn one. My mixed weight, average skill star of #ClanJadeFalcon with Elemental support vs higher skill assault star proxied by some FWL minis. Scenario was essentially tug of war (greatest total size within 4" of target moves it 8" toward their side).

I won Initiative every turn (never even needed the BI init bonus I got from RCN units) but had really bad luck on attack rolls.

High skill Clan assault mechs are really scary when they close in so I took a lot of losses on turn 3 but my Elementals dropped off if their stricken mount as the only unit in range then on turn 4 managed to get out of sight while still being in range for the final end phase to move the target over my home edge.

I went to the #IPMSVictoria model show today and entered my #ClanJadeFalcon snow diorama and some stand alone #BattleTech minis. No one else entered in the "Gaming Figure Diorama" category and I won by default. Not the glorious victory the Falcons deserve, but I'll take it.

I'm signing up for a PixelFed account and I'll post some more photos there rather than inundating Mastodon 4 at a time. I'll boost it on this account if you're interested.
