I keep hearing from marginalized and vulnerable people that civility politics is critically dangerous, also, because it places civility and politeness above all else, even fascists, racists, bigots and sociopaths who want to destroy people they hate; and that entitlement means that the civility people have zero sense of the risks if appeasing fascists.

And they hate being called appeasers. Tough shit.

I mean, it's true, sure, but it's funny how this little slice of hard-hittiing truth is in Politico *now* for some reason, when it's usually such a taboo subject.

You'd never see something like this if there weren't high level disagreements behnd the scenes about whether the US should openly back an ongoing genocide. But because there are, it's not only fine to weaponize antisemitism, but even to talk out loud about where NGO money comes from.

#Putin, #Trump, #Netanyahu, #Modhi and other recent authoritarian strongmen (#Orbán, #Erdoğan, #Bolsonaro, etc) have discovered just how effective the #FirehoseOfDisinformation is in an age of deliberate political dysfunction, polarised electorates, microtargeted #disinformation and the general milieu of ecocidal late capitalist societal crumbling ('the Crumbles'). Their supporters generally either never hear about the debunking, reject all evidence that conflicts with their commitments (#IdentityProtectiveCognition), or don't care and openly embrace #authoritarian doublethink (cf #MAGA, widespread #Israeli support for *increased* violence in #Gaza, #Russian troll farmers).

Mainstream journalists reliably get caught up in the #FalseBalance of #BothSides; #centrists fret over #CivilityPolitics; the politically disengaged grow ever more cynical and abandon the search for truth, embracing the very #cynicism, #apathy, #LearnedHelplessness and #disengagement that this strategy of #InformationalWarfare seeks to nurture.
