It's raining this morning, and I leave the foam-core sign behind, carrying only my big wood CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL along with my speaker (which gets left safely in my shoulderbag) and a battered blue umbrella. I reach Roosevelt Circle at 7:29. To my surprise and pleasure, Craige arrives a few minutes later, sheltered from the storm with a yellow poncho.

Monday and I first wake an hour ahead of the alarm, then return to sleep until I'm jolted into awareness. I take care of my pre-vigil coffee and toast, hit the road, arrive at Roosevelt Circle at 7:30, once again a soloist. As with every Monday in the past year, it's ALL-BLACK SIGNAGE until whenever our sanity returns (or I just give up, whichever comes first).

It's grey and windy, so even with temperatures in the 40s it feels colder. I've foregone my pre-vigil coffee and toast as I have to get blood samples taken after I'm done here (just routine tests), so I'm uncaffeinated. I reach Roosevelt Circle at 7:30 and set up (a soloist again), with today's handheld message reading MOTHER NATURE DOESN'T CARE WHAT YOU BELIEVE.

It's threatening to rain this morning, and I grab my white plastic poncho just in case on the wy out the door. As it turns out, it's not needed. The weather, while moist, refrains from dropping anything on me. I reach Roosevelt Circle at 7:32 and set up my equipment, then lean on the railing while holding up THINK IN EONS — ACT NOW! No Craige again today.

Wednesday is cold, right around freezing. I slept poorly last night and woke before the alarm, if it can really be called waking. It takes forever for an opening in traffic that allows me to cross the intersection to Roosevelt Circle, so despite leaving the house on time I don't reach my spot until 7:32. Today's hand-held message is LET'S BUILD A BETTER FUTURE TOGETHER.

Monday morning is virulently unpleasant. There is a light snowfall coming down when I leave the house, which is okay. I reach Roosevelt Circle at 7:30 and set up my ALL BLACK signage, keeping my speaker in my sidebag under my rain poncho. Which is definitely needed because about twenty-five minutes in everything turns to the New England specialty, the "wintry mix." Fun.

I reach Roosevelt Circle at 7:31 and set up my sign, connect my speaker, and am settling into practice, holding up WEIRD IS THE NEW NORMAL as my Friday message. And then I hear a familiar voice, and it's Craige, who's been out for over a month with a variety of health difficulties! I leap up, embrace him, and we take the next ten minutes sitting on the rail, catching up.
