gloriouscowSo yeah, that works pretty well, but it's not exactly what I envisioned. Ideally I want white to stay white, and black to stay black, and everything else to be contrasting rainbows.
But we're going to have to override three different clock pins in the composite color chain to pull that off. I probably have to put this aside for now and get ready for VCF east.
Back on topic. Rainbow CGA project - right. So the clock reset works. This pattern is fixed on the screen with only some crawlies on the edges of the stripes. It's rather uncanny to look at, really.
You can see the clock trying to drift, but being pulled back into alignment every 30 scanlines or so. I haven't wrapped my head around what those numbers mean yet.
It turns out there is one clock the STM32 can generate from a 240MHz IO clock that is an even divisor of CGA scanlines.
The rainbow shimmer on the fence is a promising taste of what a Rainbow CGA should look like.

Fun fact: Back in the day, I was a noise sound artist. Circuit-bent toys, glitchy keyboards, and pure sonic experimentation. Who knew?

'Street art' in the underpass at Oiã station. Taken with the circuit bent action scamera, I wasn't sure if there was enough light for the camera to 'see' anything.
