So... as silly puppy decided 4 AM was a good time to start the day I remade the sketch for placing all the circular tiles of the art installation 'the All Weather Orchestra' in Mörsil. It is now decided that installation will be postponed till spring due to too cold weather here in Sweden, not to risk cracking of the tiles or concrete.

Circle packing but by hand since the code didn't obey my wishes...

Some HAKMEM 149 based randomised #circlepacking algorithm i am tinkering on, the algorithm is used to draw the circles (and fill them) but also to select a random point inside the root circle by reusing the HAKMEM circle fill by messing with the orbit a bit (it spiral inward), this makes the code rather tiny !

Inspiration came from https://rantonse.org/art/randomized-circle-packing

circle packing is neat.

#CirclePacking is the study of how circles can be arranged on a surface, such that no two circles overlap each other.

It's a fascinating branch of geometry with applications in various fields, including physics, coding, and even art.

Registration for circle packing talk

I'm hosting a talk by Clyde Kertzer, Kate Stange, and Summer Haag about their work on circle packings, which was featured in this Quanta article from last year. The talk is part of the "21st century mathematics" program that I run. The talk is happening at 5pm ET on Friday, June 28. If you're a math teacher and you'd like to attend, fill out this form and I'll send you the link. Thanks! Justin Lanier
