@anne it may be that the reason for starting the #CinePaint fork, instead of just submitting patches to #GIMP or making plug-ins for it, was about having a name that could be pitched to studio bosses. I agree with you that adding new features and maybe a slightly different focus would make a fork more likely to succeed. But I agree its a far better strategy than dogpiling the GIMP project about changing their name.
