Between Tuam and Clonmacnoise: A Columba’s Day Pilgrimage

On St Columba’s Day, a journey to Clonmacnoise recalls an earlier pilgrimage to Tuam—and the unexpected paths faith, illness, and grace can travel.

Bishops rarely interest me beyond a sigh at their latest snipe at women or #LGBT. Or even worse, their grudging small concessions.

But #PaulColton was different. As #ChurchOfIreland Bishop of #Cork, Cloyne & Ross, Paul was an unequivocal supporter of gay rights. In 2003, he called for the church to ask for forgiveness of #gay people: https://www.churchofireland.org/news/1099/gay-debate-churchs-bluff-is

In the 2010s, he supported marriage equality.

Paul was the last #CoI bishop to have served in the 20th century. https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/0418/1568964-bishop-colton-retirement/

As always, if this hymn is useful to use in a parish, please do, but make sure I am […]

“How we pray and worship as Christians is rooted in our belief in the Trinity, that God is One and God is Three; it is what unites us as Christians; it is what makes our faith distinctive; and - as we have seen in our reading from Paul’s Letter to the Romans - this is the God revealed in the Scriptures.”
