Seriously, these men are certifiably insane and they're leading our military. This is what happens when you teach children to believe in an imaginary man in the sky. They put religion before rationality and call it faith.

What is really galling about this is that Trump probably couldn't care less about LGBTQ people, and I doubt he was able to operate in the entertainment industry without frequently associating with them. He is just saying things like that to pander to the #Christofascists, #ChristianNationalists and #ChristianExtremists. But if he actually follows through he will hurt a whole lot of people. If by some chance he actually gets elected my hope is that he will forget about promises he has made to groups like that, after all he lies all the time anyway, and unless they can do something for him they are not his people, and once he's been elected (perish the thought) there will be no reason for him to pander to those groups anymore.

I will make a prediction, all this morality stuff he is spewing now is going to go right out the window if he gets elected, unless he somehow perceives that following though on it will make life better for him personally. I'm not saying there isn't genuine hate in the man, but the #Christian faith is not at all important to him except for its political value. I hope we never get the chance to find out what he will really do, but unless he is a willful hypocrite (which he may very well be) he's not going to hold the country to standards that he himself doesn't believe it.

I wonder if it has ever occurred to the #Christofascists and #ChristianNationalists that when you have an #Authoritarian government, their only interest is in controlling people, so their only use for #religion is when #preachers, #priests, and other members of the #clergy espose the current government's party line. So all those preachers that are preaching their various hard-line beliefs that they THINK would be in sync with whatever authoritarian gets in power are going to find out pretty quickly that they had better say ONLY what the authoritarian government wants them to say, with little or no deviation, or they are likely to either be frog-marched out of their church and put in a camp somewhere for re-education, or else they may just wake up one morning and find that their church has burned to the ground and suddenly the land it sat on has been rezoned for government use.

I think in their minds they really believe that once an authoritarian is in power, that authoritarian will do their bidding. They really think that a man that does not go to church and has shown no interest in the Christian faith, except to use it as a stepping stone in his rise to power, is suddenly going to do what they want him to do because "God wants it". Putting aside the fact that they wouldn't know what God wants if it were written in a holy book of some kind (because they look for hidden meanings while ignoring the plain text and the times in which it was written), they don't stop to think about the fact that once the authoritarian actually gets in power he has no further use for them, and obviously he could not care less about their beliefs.

And that would be especially true if #Trump gets elected because if he adheres to the constitution he will be limited to a single additional term, so he doesn't have to care about getting re-elected and therefore doesn't have to care if the proponents of #ReligiousExtremism think he has turned on them and no longer deserves their support. What they think simply will not matter to Trump unless they get in his way. And, if he rips the constitution to shreds or burns it on Pennsylvania Avenue, and then declares himself dictator for life, he still won't have to worry about being re-elected.

In fact, he may secretly consider the extreme religious types as enemies, because he may realize that if he doesn't do exactly what they want (as discussed in #project2025 and other places) they will quickly turn on them. So when he says he will be a dictator for a day, one of the things on his mind may be make sure that all those religious extremists that he's had to try to appease for the last few years can no long cause him any trouble. He certainly saw what happened on #Jan6 and it may have dawned on him that if they were willing to hang Mike Pence, who is arguably one of them (at least in his beliefs), then maybe they might be willing to do the same to Trump if they don't like what he is doing.

And there is the question of, does Trump really go along with everything in Project 2025? I suspect even he may think parts of it are too extreme, but he is certainly not going to say that now. Always remember that Trump is playing a part that he believes will appeal to his base. But the way he has actually lived his life is not that of a man who would appreciate living in a Christofascist society.

So I just think there is a strong possibility that that the Christian Nationalists and Christofascists are deluding themselves into thinking that everything will go their way if Trump gets re-elected. I'm not saying that there aren't people in government that would be delighted if that happened; certainly there are such people who have been enected to Congress. But they are still in the minority, and in any case they won't matter if Trump becomes a dictator, because he's probably going to think of them as enemies too. Everyone has seen who Trump is; why do they think he is suddenly going to be beholden to the #ChristianExtremists if he gets elected? This may turn out to be one of the greatest examples of "Leopards Eating People's Faces" in recent history!

Absolute insanity that this bill even exists, much less considered.
The right is now consistently advocating against the very laws and norms that make this Republic great in the first place.
FOR THOSE IN THE BACK: America is not a "Christian nation," no matter what you WANT to fool yourselves into believing.
