A Korean lit professor and one-time novelist stopped writing after harsh criticism in his youth. Now teaching at a top university, he’s frustrated with students’ poor writing while living with his own failure.
With this mini-series, we’re stepping into the Korean university life with the dynamic relationship between teacher and student.
A student in the back row gives comments and writes wonderfully; the teacher, who is a professor of literature, takes the student Kang under his wings to nurture him and develop his writing. The teacher, on the other hand a failed author who reaches for ideas. ideas that flow from the student. The student comes to private lessons and starts manipulating an already disillusioned professor.
The pace is decent. The acting is varied. The directing display a multiple issues that I struggle with. Decisions that might work in K-Drama at home base. The music doesn’t play well, often horrible, cheeky music. Then the editing, which is the biggest flaw her, with both the annoying voice-over (A short cut to lazy writing) and the fucking slow-motion, which destroys the core value of the series. Maybe it’s because of what? Light up the mood?
The series goes up and down in quality. For the first, it’s predictable. You can’t ignore it. the ‘family’ is fake and through it, a lie. A fictious family, driven by the hate of the student. The series does still emulate suspens and watch-worthy performance for someone hungry of K-drama.
