The Chinese Gardens in the heart of Sydney is full of this distinctive grey-white rock.

It is limestone from several hundred kilometres away in the Central West of the state. Its distinctive surface features are formed due to limestones solubility in water.

This is karstified limestone, each piece holds a history of water movement over and around and through it when it was on andbnear the land surface hundreds of kilometres away.

Writing about the Humble Administrator's Garden today and discovered this photo I took through one of its lattice windows perfectly framing Suzhou's North Pagoda (北寺塔) about 1.5km away. In classical Chinese garden design, this is known as 遠借 or the 'borrowed view from afar'.
