Child poverty is a choice

In 2022, the child poverty rate spiked to 12.4%, a dramatic increase of 7.2 percentage points from the previous year, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureau. The increase in child poverty resulted in 5.28 million additional children living in poverty.

The story of course didn't frame it that way, there was no mention of McCarthy, but I couldn't help but notice that his district was apparently the one large county in the entire United States that hasn't managed to have an uptick in economic activity , biz investment over the last 1000 days or whatever it was... How can that bode well for the rest of an economically struggling country experiencing stagnant #wages, rising interest rates and consumer prices amidst a recession. The only solid economic engine in McCarthy's district is the carbon crisis creating oil and gas industry of course! Sigh... Glad to know he'll be focusing on impeaching border agency officials and looking into Hunter Biden's laptop while his own county has high #childhoodpoverty, low educational outcomes and sinks into a depressed deficit dragged monetary morass.

Reducing childhood poverty could cut criminal convictions by almost a quarter, study shows

A significant reduction in childhood poverty could cut criminal convictions by almost a quarter, according to a study conducted in Brazil. An article on the study is published in Scientific Reports. The researchers used an innovative approach involving an analysis of 22 risk factors that affect human development and interviews with 1,905 children at two points—a first interview to form a baseline (mean age 10.3) and a follow-up interview seven years later (mean age 17.8).
