I am going to be at WATOC in Oslo this coming Monday through to Wednesday and would love to chat with any attendees about experiences publishing (be that in Chemical Science, RSC journals, or otherwise!).

Feel free to send me a message here or come by the RSC booth!

And if anyone is looking for a paper (or a few) to read on the flight, I recommend checking out our themed collection of most popular #ChemSci work from 2024 in this area!

Interesting conclusions in this paper!

"The potential energy differences between “forbidden” and “allowed” transition states are found to cover a wide range of values, with the smallest being less than half the classical barrier to internal rotation of ethane."

https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2025/sc/d4sc08748h

Which means that when planning e.g. total synthesis, aiming only for the "allowed" route might not be a good strategy since other factors such as sterics, NCIs, electronic effects may favour the "forbidden" route.

So are these classifications actually helpful?

Chemical Science is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2025! We are publishing a special collection showcasing work from leading investigators from across all areas of chemistry who started their independent careers in the 15 years since
https://bsky.app/profile/chemsci.rsc.org was launched!

Aryliminopyrazoles are a novel class of imine-based photoswitches reported by https://bsky.app/profile/jakeylg.bsky.social and co-workers at The Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg.

These species were detailed in a #ChemSci Pick of the Week earlier this year!

Chemical Science - Favourite Covers of 2023 - Round 2!

Please take a few minutes to take our survey.

In the ChemSci Pick of the Week, Dr Chaofeng Zhang and colleagues from Anhui University designed a new covalent organic framework with dual redox-active sites through a simple condensation reaction of TA and PTO-NH2 in a Schiff base reaction.

In our ChemSci Pick of the Week, Jeremiah Gassensmith et al. (University of Texas at Dallas, USA) show that the biomimetic mineralisation of the inert model antigen ovalbumin (OVA) in zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) significantly improves the humoral immune response over three bolus doses of OVA (OVA 3×).
